David Ramirez

 
 

David Ramirez is currently a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) and a Doctoral Candidate at the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU). He served in the U.S. Marines from 2008-2012.

David is passionate about professional mentoring and informal teaching. He volunteers his time extensively towards helping the military community with both career counseling and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Since 2017, David has supported the Veterati platform mentoring veterans, active duty, and military spouses. This has assisted 30+ veterans find education and jobs in data science, machine learning, and engineering. Helping many, starts with just one. David has supported Student Veterans of America as a chapter leader at ASU, guiding multiple generations of veterans towards success. David joined VDSML at its founding in 2021. He believes in the lofty goals of building something from nothing, for the mission of helping others.

David’s full time employment is focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning for computer vision, signals intelligence, electronic warfare, near-peer threat emulation, and military training. Outside of working hours, David is steadily progressing towards a Computer Engineering Ph.D. with focus in neural network architecture design, real-time reality capture at large scale, maintaining a digital twin 3D model, and mixed reality serious games. David has worked with Sensors, Signals, and Information Processing (SenSIP) research group since 2014, through grants from the National Science Foundation, Research Experiences for Veterans. He has completed master’s and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering with a focus in digital signal processing. David has 12+ years of university level education, 8+ years hands on with deep learning, 6+ years of experience in industry, and 4 years in the military.

David joined the United States Marine Corps in 2008, and served as an Electronics Technician until 2012. He was trained for MOS 2846 and 2841 by the Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School in Twentynine Palms, California. In 2010, David was stationed at Del Mar Beach in Camp Pendleton, California, with 1st Maintenance Battalion supporting the Reparable Issue Point. David joined and deployed with Combat Logistics Battalion 11 as part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In 2011 he sailed to the Western Pacific aboard the USS New Orleans as part of a naval joint task force, supporting peaceful military operations in nearly a dozen countries.
