John Droescher

 
 

John joined the US Air Force in 2000. During his six-year enlistment, John served as a backshop avionics technician, specializing in component level repair of guidance and control systems. During his enlistment, John was stationed at Tinker AFB where he maintained the global E-3 AWACS fleet and Dyess AFB, maintaining the global B-1B Lancer fleet. Among many awards, John exited the service at the rank of E-5, Staff Sgt.

After his enlistment, John moved into the semi-conductor industry as a Field Service Engineer maintaining and installing Ion Implanter and Dry Strip capital equipment in fabs in Phoenix, AZ, Fishkill, NY, Burlington, VT, Dalian, China, and various fabs across Japan over a period of 12 years. In this role, John worked on interconnected systems ranging from robotics to networking, fiber optics, and IT, to applied physics and RF and others. In this role, John spent over two years as an expat living in China. After a subsequently short stint as an analyst for the marketing team of a nation-wide law firm, John currently works as a data science leader supporting major international firms.

John studied at the City College of New York where he majored in Political Science and Finance. During this time, he participated in a Kaggle competition that connected his analytics experience with his studies in finance and political science. This Kaggle experience was the spark that led John to pursue a career in data science. Ultimately, he was asked to return to the City College of New York as an adjunct lecturer where he currently teaches students how to use SQL and Python for quantitative finance and business analytics.

During his travels, John rediscovered his love of Latin dance and scuba diving. His travels most often involve one, or both, of these activities. John is a part-time Latin dance coach, teaching Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue to students around the world. He is also a PADI Master Scuba Diver Instructor, IANTD Technical Cave Diver, and has been a leader of the IANTD Caribe Gold Line and Cave Survey team in the Dominican Republic.
